Band In Seattle: Season 3 Episode 8
Year: 2017
Runtime: 22 min
If you took the stage presence and theatrics of Devo and David Bowie, the spaghetti western themes of Ennio Morricone, and a voice deeper than Johnny Cash, then you’ve got Brent Amaker and the Rodeo. They’re an actual Tarantino movie in music form. Stetsons and all, this troupe of cowboys are in a league all their own. You’d be hard up to find a band around here that puts on more of a show than Brent Amaker and the Rodeo.Added to My Q

Posse is so unbelievably cool. With dreamy soundscapes and stark, deadpan vocals, Posse makes perfect rainy day music. They write the kind of songs that would honestly fit well over some self-effacing John Cusack monologue. Their sound is signature Seattle, but not pretentious in the slightest. With lyrics so layered and melodies so subtle, Posse’s songs take up a lot of real estate in your brain and refuse to leave.Added to My Q

With witty lyrics and a gritty gothic folk vibe, this six-piece feels so comfortable on stage that they turn every room into a living room. Each person is a particular ingredient, and they somehow make up this delicious sauce, but one where you can’t identify any particular flavors. You just know it’s good. No matter if you like country, rock, or folk music, their songs are super accessible.Added to My Q

There’s a song that Evening Bell plays, called “Dust Storm,” which says way more about their music than anything else. When one hears Evening Bell, it’s hard not to picture a tumble weed skimming around a desert somewhere in Tucson circa whenever John Wayne was a movie star. It’s vintage Americana at its finest, but with a dark and psychedelic twist – music fit for a ghost town overtaken by Saguaro cacti, and perhaps cows.Added to My Q

Jupe Jupe & The Gods Themselves
Year: 2016
Runtime: 22 min
The Gods Themselves are reminiscent of the male/female vocals of talking heads built on a punk foundation, yet their music is a fluid, ever-evolving sound. Astra Elane’s newfound independence as a lead guitarist has led her to evolve into a confident, engaging front woman. While listening to the rhythmic punching of the drums and the laidback guitar styling, audiences can be found closing their eyes, and just grooving to the punk-pop melodies of The Gods Themselves.
My Young creates a characterization of himself in every performance. He and his band mates make up a quartet of cerebral musicians whose sound is self-described as “mournful dance, new wave music”. Young’s rich vocals are suggestive of a Depeche Mode sound, but then it stands on a foundation of heavy synth, rough guitar, and pounding drum lines. Coupled with Young’s pointed lyrics, Jupe Jupe has discovered a whole new sound for their Pacific Northwest audience.Added to My Q

Wild Powwers has more oomph than Ws in their name. Jordan Gomes is a beast on bass, Lupe Flores is the human embodiment of a kick drum, and Lara Hilgeman manages to channel riot girl and soul diva at the same time. It’s dark and heavy and dirty and magical. The three of them bring in all kinds of influences, but it all still manages to sound like the same band in every song, somehow. This trio – no, trifecta – has the prolific songwriting chops and hardworking road mentality that it takes to make it as a band. They’ve got a unique sound, great attitudes, and songs that get lodged in the deepest, darkest bits of your brain.Added to My Q

During their last tour in the summer of 2007, filmmaker Nicholas Kleczewski traveled with the The Snake The Cross The Crown and captured on film the end of an era for the group. After releasing two critically acclaimed yet relatively unknown albums - 2004's Mander Salis and 2007's Cotton Teeth - the five members of The Snake The Cross The Crown found themselves spread across the country; some members going back to school, others holding odd jobs to pay the bills. Unable to relentlessly tour and promote, yet unwilling to let go of their passion for creating music together, The Snake The Cross The Crown were at a major turning point for themselves as a band, and as individualsAdded to My Q

Live at the Royal Albert Hall (20th Anniversary Concert)
Year: 2001
Runtime: 1 hr 35 min
Live at the Royal Albert Hall finds Culture Club celebrating its 20th anniversary with an infectious and expansive grandeur, all while basking in the love of adoring fans. The show actually starts with a great joke on the audience: Boy George, looking not a day over 20, glides onstage in his once-trademark derby and beaded hair extensions, delivering a warm and welcome vocal on "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?" The startled crowd soon realizes he's an impersonator. The real, fortysomething George O'Dowd, looking a lot less androgynous and a tad thicker than in New Romantics days, smiles self-deprecatingly and launches into a pleasing set of white soul ("Cold Shoulder," "Miss Me Blind"), stark gospel ("That's the Way"), stirring raga-rock ("Bow Down Mister"), and even a classic (a lovely cover of Bowie's "Starman," complete with audience participation and muscular guitar by Roy Hay).Added to My Q

Banjo and Slide and Joel Hoyer on bass. Blake Noble honors the music heritage he learned from Australian Aborigines by keeping it pure. One of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet, he’s a true original. His style, created in his native land is now being shared all over the US.Added to My Q

Finding a rock band in Seattle these days is a bit of an oddity, but one with catchy and infectious songs that stick in your head is rarer still. Seattle Washington's InCahoots is exactly that kind of band. They will be releasing their 4th album in March, Dogland which was recorded at the legendary Hall of Justice Studios with producer Andy Park.
This feisty quartet, is lead by guitar-wielding chanteuse Christina Crammer — a vigilant disciple of Joan Jett, Chrissie Hynde and Debbie Harry. Christina's soaring vocals have a beautiful mix of "vixen and venom" that highlight her clever songwriting skills. The other members of InCahoots (Rich Huston on bass, Brad Judy on lead guitar, and Dave Crossett on drums) provide a solid background to the mixture of old-school punk and classic-rock riffage — the songs setup her sing-along choruses in a powerful way.
Hailing from the rain soaked streets of Portland, OR, Spellcaster has been hard at work making a name for themselves since the summer of 2009. The online release of their first demo, Spells of Speed, in February 2010 caught the eye of New York label Heavy Artillery Records, leading to their first record deal in April of the same year.
With the re-release of Spells of Speed via Heavy Artillery, the band began their first North American tour in October 2010, quickly followed by the release of their debut Under the Spell in 2011. Rigorous touring ensued as the band crossed the country promoting their music for the following 2 years. Sometime in 2012 a wall was hit, and it became apparent that a lineup change was imminent.
In early 2013, vocalist Thomas Adams and drummer Shad Covert departed the band, leading guitarist Tyler Loney to assume lead vocals duties. Guitarist Bryce R. VanHoosen and drummer Colin Vranizan were enlisted to complete the lineup. Shortly after, the band began writing their self-titled sophomore album, which – aside from a two-week west coast tour in summer – took up the entirety of 2013.
In December of the same year, the band entered Falcon & Audiosiege Studios in Portland, with Toxic Holocaust front man Joel Grind co-producing and engineering. After 3 months of constant tracking and mixing, their entirely self-funded album was completed in February. With their second album now complete, the band is preparing a thorough touring cycle throughout 2015 and the following year.Added to My Q

The Fame Riot is clearly one of the best bands to emerge from the Seattle scene. Beyond the look & the youthful swagger, they provide great music and great entertainment. In a 2013 Sound Off interview, Shazzam Watkins and Liz Scarlett described their music as “a soup that never stops cooking but you can try it any time you like.” Their quest to create infectiously danceable, yet credible glam pop-rock is a dream fulfilled, because at this fortuitous age they have the talent to go out on a limb with their dandy style and driving music.Added to My Q

"How can such a big sound come from just two people?" This is what you will be asking yourself upon hearing Electric NoNo for the first time. Aside from "delivering a punch harder than Crispin cider" (train wreck'd society), you will find well-crafted albums, giant singable hooks, and a live show that will make you once again believe in the power of rock.
Julia Massey & The Five Finger Discount is a sweetly trippy, magical musical trio led by dreamy flaxen-blonde vocalist/keyboardist Julia and flanked by her happily-raging rhythm section, Matt Deason (bass) and Dominic Cortese (drums).
Julia and Matt and Dom share a deep passion for pho between playing their own private festivals - while also playing out at legendary Seattle venues like the Triple Door and the Showbox (along with the Tractor, Sunset, and Barboza) with similarly adept and inspired artists as Camille Bloom, Robb Benson, Red Jacket Mine, Carla Torgerson, Wayne Horvitz, the Hoot Hoots, the Great Um, and many others.Added to My Q
