August, 1970: With Jim Morrison's ongoing Miami obscenity trial casting an ominous shadow over the band, The Doors flew to England to play the Isle of Wight Festival. Waiting for them at "The Last Great Festival" were over 600,000 fans who had already torn down the barriers, crashed the gates, and enjoyed performances by the world's top acts such as Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Miles Davis and Joni Mitchell. The Doors took the stage at 2 am, playing with the weight of the trial on their backs, and showed fans they still had the magic that had propelled them to the top during the Summer of Love. "We played with a controlled fury and Jim was in fine vocal form," said Doors organist Ray Manzarek. "He sang for all he was worth, but moved nary a muscle. Dionysus had been shackled." Less than a year later, The Doors were no more. Here, for the very first time, is the last Doors concert ever filmed. The Doors: Live at the Isle of Wight.

When you hear them perform, right from the primal crunchy grooves of ‘Come Of Over’ to riff-heavy ‘Out Of The Black’ and stomping second single ‘Little Monster’, it’s hard to understand how such a ferocious sound comes from such a minimal line-up. Needless to say we were left speechless after this gig, and no doubt you will be too. Royal Blood perform at The Oxford Art Factory, in Sydney, Australia, on June 4, 2014.Added to My Q

Maszer – an amalgam of David “Stitcx” Rapaport’s guitar wizardry, Katie Blackstock’s haunting and sultry vocals, and Joe Braley’s ferocious drumming. Ra Ra Riot. Such an appropriate name. The cheerleader-esque "Ra ra" chant evokes images of high school, all of which can be found in this youthful band. You've got your photogenic prom queens on violin and cello. Your shaggy-haired Drama Club Stud on vocals. Your lovable athletic jock on drums. Your wacky class clowns on guitar and bass. And there's the "Riot" part, which comes close to describing this six-piece's blend of controlled chaos. The songs combine distorted guitar, fat bass, keyboards, orchestrated strings, and vocals. Mix the Arcade Fire with Devo and some coverpage-worthy good looks, and you wouldn't be too far from Ra Ra Riot's enjoyable racket.Added to My Q

Studio releases never fully conveyed Cheap Trick’s muscle, but the band harnessed the raw energy of their live show with 1978’s At Budokan (Live). Recorded in Tokyo before 12,000 feverish fans, “Hello There” and “Lookout” are the dictionary definition of how live rock ’n’ roll should sound. A cover of “Ain’t That a Shame” highlights the band’s connection to a timeless tradition of teen-rock abandon, but “Surrender” and “I Want You to Want Me” are the gold coins that secured them their own space in the rock canon.Added to My Q

On this 1980 live album, the first power chords of “The Hard Way” resume the full-on guitar pummel that first announced The Kinks with “You Really Got Me.” Their '70s hit “Catch Me Now I’m Falling” includes the riff from The Rolling Stones’ “Jumpin’ Jack Flash.” The Pretenders covered “Stop Your Sobbing”. The Jam nailed “David Watts.” “Lola” was again becoming a minor hit. As per usual, The Kinks admit what other bands won’t. They did careful overdubs on this live album to make it sound even better. While there are greatest-hits albums that collect the group’s highlights, this live set is a great reintroduction for old fans.Added to My Q
