Billy Idol

After U.K. punk pioneers Generation X called it quits, frontman Billy Idol wasted no time in reinventing himself as the snarling 1980s MTV icon of New Wave-infused Hard Rock most know (and some love). His career has constantly teetered on the line between legitimacy and self-parody, producing an impressive amount of infectious, fist-pumping hits alongside a number of forgettable turkeys. Who can resist blasting the radio when "Rebel Yell" comes on, or imitating his patented lip curl and clenched fist while singing along with "Cradle of Love"? Undeniably, his 1993 release Cyberpunk was an unfortunate occurrence, but Idol's previous successes have proven strong enough to survive any hardship.

In Super Overdrive Live was filmed at the Congress Theater, Chicago for the US TV series Soundstage and originally broadcast in America in July 2009. The show sees Billy Idol, with trademark sneer and peroxide hair very much to the fore, reunited with guitarist Steve Stevens, who played on (and sometimes co-wrote) all his eighties hits. The tracklist runs from early Generation X favourites, through his classic solo singles and up to tracks from his most recent album The Devils Playground. Idol is a fantastic live performer who oozes onstage charisma and the audience rocks along to every minute of this mesmerising concert.
